Student Counsellor Headingley LS6 and online
Family mental health issues in 2016 that started to ease in 2020 led me to take an interest in the way that counselling can help the whole family, and I began to take courses in person-centred counselling in that autumn. Currently I am in my final year of training and undertaking volunteer placements to build my practical counselling skills. At Free Your Mind Counselling, I offer face-to-face, one-to-one, person-centred counselling in Headingley at HEART. I am insured, with a DBS certificate and I am registered with BACP and NCPS as a student member and follow their ethical guidelines.
I have an NFCE level 2 qualification in Children and Young People’s Mental Health, so although I do not work with under-18s, it informs my work with carers and with adults reflecting on their own childhood. I have also undertaken CPD on topics such as suicide awareness, gender identity, adapting practice for men and boys, and neurodiversity.
At the heart of person-centred counselling is a belief that the client can choose the most appropriate way to address their current concerns, and that therapy, by offering an unconditional, safe and confidential space for the client to think through how to engage with the present, and/or come to terms with the past, can give the client more confidence in their own resourcefulness.
